New Year’s Resolutions

2011 was not a bad year for me it had tons of really awesome moments, I got to travel a lot and explore new places, states, and countries. I attended two weddings, and my best friend gave birth to seriously the cutest baby ever. My relationship with my boyfriend had its first very low points, but we were able to work through them together and soon we will be happily celebrating our three year anniversary. But there is still one thing that is holding me back from saying that this year was a great year for me, the lack of a job. I was laid off from my job in the summer of 2010 and for the rest of that year I was kind of in serious funemployment mode. But for 2011 I really tried to hunker down and not just look for work, but start my career. I applied to tons of places, went on a multitude of interviews, had quite a few genuinely hopeful moments, but was rejected and rejected time and again. It really has taken a huge toll on me and I’m starting to feel like its never going to happen for me.

In 2012 I promise to push those fears aside but also try to be more realistic. Although it is something that I don’t want to do, I am going to have to look for more jobs that are not in my “career” field and try to get something just to get by. This is something that I have been struggling with for awhile. Unfortunately, it’s a sign of the times, and I will still continuously apply for jobs I want, I will put more effort into finding a job I need.

Besides the job front, I am also resolving to try to be more socially active. This means not relying on facebook to keep in touch with people but picking up the phone. Taking the iniative to stay in contact with friends and plan times to see them. Maybe I will also try to take some classes or something in order to meet new people and make new friends.

I will also try to make my bed every morning, wash my makeup off every night, and work on blogging more regularly. I am so happy to see that my blog has started to take off this year. I have gained quite a few new readers (Hi everyone!) and I am also being contacted more reviews, which is always really awesome! I promise to blog at least twice a week and hopefully get an outfit post up every week.

I think that its for now. In the past years I have tried not set up too much expectations on New Year’s resolutions and instead tried to pick a new small, positive change for myself every month. I will probably do this too, but the things I’ve written about today I feel are things necessary for my life.

2012 is the year of the dragon, it should be a year of legend and power, and hopefully will be a year of great changes for the better.

Do you put much or any effort into planning and keeping New Year’s resolutions, if so what are some of yours? Are they big or small? Or do you decide to just let the New Year take its own course and go with the flow?

My Photo Shoot Experience

I’ve been neglecting my poor little bloggie lately oh no! Really I misplaced my memory card reader and couldn’t upload any pictures. But I am back now with more outfit of the day fun times for all!

Recently I told you about an exciting opportunity I had with Monif C. clothing. I was chosen along with two other girls for a customer makeover photo shoot. I won’t give too much away, the pictures should be up towards the end of November, but it was a lot of fun and so cool to be a part of. Each of us were asked to bring three outfits we would wear for on a first date, office holiday party, and our birthday. I was chosen to represent the first date outfit but they actually had me wear my birthday outfit. So I am going to share with you my original first date outfit.

Top: Torrid size 1
Pants: Tripp by Torrid size 18
Belt: NY & Company size XL
Necklace: Sanrio
Earrings: Lia Sophia
Bracelet: Gift from a friend
Shoes: Spunky from ShoeDazzle

This is really more one of my go to outfits for me rather than just a date outfit. I feel like it is sexy and flirty without being too provocative, just retro fun. The outfit you’ll see more wearing in the shoot is very similar to the one from this blog post.

Since I was representing the first date my Monif C. makeover outfit was more casual and was one of the wrap dresses. I was a little disappointed than I didn’t get to wear something from the holiday collection, because they are all so beautiful and glamorous, but I don’t think anything would have made sense for a first date look. But from the peak I did see of the photos they look amazing and I really can’t wait to see how everything came out.

Before taking our pictures I also got to watch what a real photoshoot looks like; model Denise Bidot was there taking pictures for the new collection. All I can say is wow, I felt bad because the whole time I was seriously just staring at her, one she is beyond beautiful in person, and two it was just amazing to watch her work. She needed no direction from the photographer, and it was really like she could see what each picture looks like in her head. She just looked absolutely flawless in each shoot, and it was incredible too watch.

The shoot was in the Empire State Building and had an amazing view. I tried to get a few shots.

Me and Monif!

Here are me and the other girls in the shoot post makeover!

Obligatory I’m on a Boat

A couple of weeks ago I traveled to upstate New York for a wedding at Seneca Lake. It was so  beautiful and relaxing up there; I only wish we could have gone a couple of weeks later so we would have gotten the full extent of the leaves changing. I wanted to share some pictures with you from the trip and of course what I wore to the rehearsal dinner and the wedding.

Beautiful sunset

Being a tourist!

Hey Look! I did the impossible I wore a bridesmaid dress again (even if it was to another wedding). That was the really nice thing about this dress and short bridesmaid dresses in general, is that they are versatile and comfortable enough you don’t feel like a crazy person wearing them again.

A Short Summer

As summer comes to a close I wanted to share with you a short story about shorts. Not just shorts but my thighs and my body image. It is a story that I haven’t told before.

Being plus-sized my whole life, I’ve always had a problem with wearing shorts. My thighs have always been my biggest body issue (no pun intended). I remember when I was about nine or ten years old, if I was wearing shorts I would sit down and just imagine that I could take a knife and just cut off the extra fat from my thighs. I know now these are awful mental visuals for someone to have at such a young age, but then it was what I felt and what I wished for. I never had a problem wearing skirts though, I guess because I felt  like I could still hide behind my tights or pantyhose. I remember being made fun of (by other girls) in fifth grade because I wore skirts and dresses all the time. But I wore them regardless, because I didn’t have to worry about them fitting my extra large hips and thighs and because they were comfortable. By middle school I had such a dislike for my thighs that I decided to stop wearing shorts all together. I sweated through 90+ degree summers until about 11th or 12th grade when I lost a significant amount of weight (through very unhealthy measures) and started to feel comfortable with my body for the first time. When I started to gain the weight back (through normal healthy eating again) my thighs and calves become covered in stretch marks, and my hatred for them came back with a vengeance. In my early college years I started to take birth control pills and depression medication which caused me to gain even more weight. This was also though around the time when I truly became a feminist, started practicing Wicca, started developing my insane personal style, and truly started to love my body exactly how it looked. I pranced around naked, called myself a goddess, thought my body should be worshiped, and loved every inch of it. But still I strayed from shorts. Skirts and capris were my best friends in the summer. Maybe each year I would subtract an inch from my capris until I started to feel comfortable enough in bermuda shorts a few summers ago.

This summer, however, something happened and I stopped caring. Maybe because it was so obscenely hot, maybe it was because of writing this fashion blog and following others, and being inundated with images of women of every size rocking their summer outfits, maybe it was because I was unemployed this summer and didn’t have to worry about dressing up for anything; but all I wanted to do this summer was wear shorts. I’ve posted a few shorts outfits from Asos, Kohl’s, and City Chic on here but it looks like nothing compared to the fact that I wore shorts pretty much everyday this summer. And I am not just talking about shorts but beautiful thigh baring short shorts.

I even got a little bit of criticism for my shorts this summer. When I posted this outfit on tumblr I received a couple of negative comments saying that it was “the least flattering thing (troll) has seen on anyone.” And you know what honestly I took these comments in stride and felt like I was being inducted into an exclusive club, because you really aren’t making an impact until you start getting anonymous hate messages on the internet. And haters gonna hate and I kept on wearing my shorts.

Well this all leads up to the shortest shorts I have ever owned in my life. I saw them on Torrid at the beginning of summer but wasn’t sure about the length. When they went on the 50% clearance sale at towards the end of summer I stopped caring and snatched them up.

Not only are these shorts comfortable and cool but they also came with a simple denim tie belt which is perfect for my big hips and small waist, I don’t have to worry about them slipping down or wearing a bulky belt with the. Also the short length gives a peek of my thigh tattoo which rarely sees the light of day.

Top: Forever 21+ size 1x via Re/dress
Shorts: Torrid size 18
Necklace: Tarina Tarantino via Ebay
Earrings: gift from a friend
Bracelet: gift from my mom

So let me know how is your relationship with shorts? Are there any specific items of clothing that you don’t feel comfortable in because of your size?

The Disney chapel was beautiful and you could even see Cinderella’s castle from the window behind the altar.

Caught My Eye Friday

Well I updated the layout of my blog a little bit, might make a few more changes soon, but hey did you notice I have a new badge on my sidebar. That’s right I am officially an Evans blog partner woot! And speaking of Evans, good news for fans stateside. Style 369 is offering free shipping to the US on purchases over £50, yay! I picked up a couple items from my wishlist. I was a little upset though, I had my cart all set up, and then when I was checking out one of my fave items sold out!!!

Dammit I want that stupid headband so bad! So if anyone in the Great Britain area could please find and send me this item, I would be forever in debt to you and your wonderful accent.

Oh well, here are some other jewels I’ve found around the web this week:

If only my cat ad I could have matching hairstyles.

Clique to Know opened up this week! In case you haven’t heard they are a new daily fashion deals website catering exclusively to the plus size community. To sign up click here!

For inbetweenies check out this gorgeous lace color block top from Express. Express is one of those stores that I only go into once a year or so. Although they only go up to a size large, a lot of their items have a lot of stretch or are made for the over-sized look like this one and fit great on 16-18 sized bodies.

Beautiful Labyrinth Inspired My Little Pony, I will and forever be Team Jareth!

Although I am currently unemployed, just replace bank with about every job I’ve ever had. Maybe this is also why I am having a hard time finding a new one.
