Put a Bird on It

My new favorite trend right now is birds! Beautiful birds and feathers are everywhere right now, form jewelry to home decor, and they swooping into fashion big time. (
Sorry that will be my only bird pun, I promise!) I am definitely into this trend full force. I mean you can have a sad little tote bag, but once you put a bird on it, gasp “did you see that bag before!”

Here are some of my favorite bird items I’ve spotted.

Put a bird on it

Bird prints are perfect going into spring and summer. Plus it is a really easy trend to work with because it can be styled in so many different ways. Bird cage prints like the Torrid top and Asos and Lucie Lu dresses can be styled with pastels and light flower fabrics for a vintage romantic look. The Yours bird tops and anything with owls and be worn with more edgy or 70s inspired pieces for hipster, hippie, or rock festival trends. And take your peacock prints and anything with feathers and turn it into a sexy, tropical summer look.

How do you feel about birds, do you love it as much as I do or are you flying the coop on this trend (Sorry I know I had to!) I am currently redecorating my room with a bird cage print bed set and little birdie wall decals, and now I am looking for bird prints to add to my wardrobe. So I guess I am going in completely with this trend.

Also can’t go without posting this…

Oh My Gawd Shoes: Poetic License

One of my favorite brands of now is Poetic License. I am absolutely obsessed with them. They are one of the few brands out today making truly unique, yet still very wearable styles.

This season many of their shoes are representing a vintage, early 1900s, yet they still look very modern. Here are a few of my favorites. (Click on images for details.)

I recently wore this outfit with a pair of Poetic License shoes that I bought from their summer clearance Ideeli sale. The style is called Magical Sunset. I had been looking for a pair of floral shoes for awhile and I just fell in love with these. They have everything I want; flowers, hearts, rhinestones, and cuteness!

Pants: Tripp via Torrid size 18

Accesorize Your Rights: Fab Faux Fur

We just had our first snow fall of the year this weekend, and I was not ready for it. I think my mind is still lost somewhere in the Caribbean, and I am just refusing to except that it is freezing here. The snow finally forced me to pull out my big puffy coat, some ear warmers, leather gloves, scarves, more stuff to keep me warm. But rather than venturing too much outside, I am more of a fan of snuggling in bed with a furry kitty.

But now I can have both, lol, not really, my cats are waaay too smart to go outside when its cold. But I can still have furriness! Faux fur is making as comeback in a really great way. It has always been a trend I have shied away from. I remember when I worked out Torrid, every year we world get a huge, long, black furry trench coat, which we lovingly nicknamed “The Gorilla.” Even fur vests, I think they look great on other people, but they are just not for me. This year we are seeing a lot of faux fur in smaller doses in beautiful winter accessories.

Here are a few of my favorites from Asos:

Asos Faux Fur Muffler

I’ve had a secret love of muffs ever since I was a little girl. Victorian chic, although beautiful, might not always be so convenient, but I am loving the furry cuffs! They are such a great way to add a touch of color and whimsy to often drab winter outerwear. Of course peter pan collars seem to be everywhere lately, and these furry ones would look great over peacoats along with your favorite sweaters or dresses. Also how cute are those furry cuffed socks, they would look great over so many different pairs of boots and I bet they are super comfy too. Another great thing is a lot of these items are on clearance now, some are even under $10.

What do you think, have you been wearing faux fur this winter? Would you try it in bright colors or do you prefer to keep it more natural looking? Or do you think furriness should just stay on the animals?

Classic Hollywood Glamor with Thomas Laine

With movies coming out like The Artist and My Week with Marilyn, we can’t seem to get enough of old school Hollywood Glamor. One of the easiest ways to add a touch of classic glamor to our everyday modern lives is through glittering jewels. I recently discovered Thomas Laine, who creates jewelery perfect for Oscar after parties or a night out with your friends.

Here are some of my favorite picks.

Although stunningly beautiful, these items can cost you a pretty penny. And if like me, you aren’t receiving an Oscar swag bag any time soon, here are my favorites for under $100.

Are you ready for your close up?

Holiday Style Featuring Marisota

I really can’t stop thinking about what I want to wear for the holidays, not the I have that many events to go to; it’s just that I love any occasion to get fancy! Most people automatically think dresses are necessary for parties, but it’s just as easy to get in the holiday spirit while wearing a pair of pants or trousers. Whether you are cooking, decorating, running after kids, or just plain want to be more comfortable it’s still possible to look effortless and fabulous in trousers.

This year we are breaking away a bit from the skinny trend and veering more towards 70s style wide leg and palazzo pants, which instantly adds a touch of glamour and sass to any outfit. We are also seeing more trousers available in different colors and fabrics than just your  basic black; that little bit of something unexpected in your wardrobe will make it even easier for you to stand out at your holiday party!

Check out some of my top picks of women’s trousers from Marisota for holiday wear.

For the classic wide leg trouser look check out these styles:

You could pair any of these with a lacy top and pearls or a shiny jewel tone tunic with a wide or a chain belt over it. Or go full for the full retro look with a cute pussybow blouse. Add a pair of metallic silver or gold heels for extra shine!

For those obsessed with the skinny look, try these options:

These slim leg trousers are perfect if you want to add a little edge to your holiday wear while still looking sophisticated. Wear them with a sequins tank top and a fitted blazer or cropped jacket. These would also will still make you look cool when you get invited to an infamous ugly sweater party.
Velour or velvet leggings are probably one of my favorite things in the world right now. Not going to lie, I was a little apprehensive about this trend at first; I though they might get way to hot. But I gave them a try and I was in heaven! They add a simple are of luxury while still being as comfortable as your favorite pair of pajama pants!

Skinny leg pants are also a good choice because they look great with any kind of shoes. Sparkly flats, stilettos, ballet slippers, even if it’s snowing you can still slip a pair of cute boots over them and look awesome.

For those with a more daring sense of style, try these printed pants from Marisota.

I am all about those grey and black tapered trousers. The peacock feather pattern is so unique, they would be sure to get a ton of admirers Wear these with a classic pair of booties and complimenting top then add your sparkle in accessories for a completely unexpected yet classy holiday look.

Another trend I am seeing everywhere lately is mesh. Although I haven’t tried it yet, it always seems to  catch my eye.

I think this style of trouser gives off such an air of old Hollywood and would look perfect with some sequined accessories and maybe even retro fascinator headband or hat.

So will you be trying any new trends in trousers this holiday season? How will you dressing up a pair of pants?

Bling in the New Year

I don’t know about you guys but I’m kind of ready for this year to be over and done with already. But there is one thing we can’t skip, all the holiday party fun! The great thing about this time of year is that we get to indulge in tons of sparkle and shine in our wardrobes, and nobody thinks we’re crazy for it. (Not that that’s ever stopped me before!) This year the holiday dress trend is no different with glitter, sequins, shiny metallic fabrics, luxurious lace and velvet, and mesh. We are also seeing a lot of sleeve embellishments on dress, with long kimono sleeve, puffy and architectural shoulders, and lots of daring one shoulder dresses.

Personally I am loving most the ladylike lace dresses.

I especially love lace accessories, like clutches or lace covered pearls; I think it adds a little bit of edge to an outfit in a very feminine way. Lace is also easily mixed with the metallic trend, as we are seeing a lot of lace over shiny gold or silver fabrics. Adding a pop of metallic in your shoes or jewelry is an easy way to bring some fun into a plain black lace outfit. Also who doesn’t love lace gloves, they are so sexy! I wish we lived in era when ladies wore gloves all the time. Long elegant black gloves added to your New Year’s outfit will add sense of glamour and mystery to an outfit and definitely make you stand out from the crowd.

But if you really want to stand out, you will need some sparkle!

Sequins has been so big for holiday party outfits, and this year we are seeing some more subdued, just touches of sequins along with the full on allover bling dress. Fashion to Figure is carrying a few all sequins party dresses in all different colors, so if you want to represent Beyonce or Lady Gaga you will be shining all night long. How fun would it be to wear one of these to a karaoke party, oh my god I don’t think you would be able to resist from busting out your best jams and wildest dance moves! For those that don’t want their dress to outshine their personality the sequin sleeve dress from Asos Curve or the Torrid splice dress are perfect. Pair them with gold or silver accessories and be ready to sparkle!

If you want to shine, but don’t need the full on glitterazi, then this year’s metallic fabrics will have you asking for more.

First of all the gold Asos Curve maxi dress is fit for a queen; I wish I had somewhere that awesome to go to where I could wear that dress. But personally I am most in love with the Milla Dress from Igigi. The hint of metallic shimmer in the kimono sleeves is so sexy and unexpected; I could definitely see myself getting a kiss at midnight while wearing that dress.

Like I said before metallics are super easy to work in with all of the holiday trends this year. And the best way to do this is with an amazing pair of shoes. Luckily from now until the end of the month ShoeDazzle is offering 50% off of three of their most popular styles of heels, that’s less than $20!!

Autumn Berries

One color trend that seems to come around every fall is berry hues, rich purples, maroons, dark mulberries, and other wine saturated hues. This color is great for dressing up and down and this year we are seeing it styled in both the office menswear trend and the bohemian chic look. It acts as a great autumn neutral, pairing it with browns, cognacs, and other berry hues; and this season we are seeing it paired with jeweled teal towns, light pinks, cobalt blues, and even neon colors.

Here are some berry sweet items I am craving this season!

I am especially loving the playsuit from Asos Curve, although I have never worn a playsuit before I think it just looks so sexy paired with black tights. And that floral maxi dress from Simply Be is a perfect example of how to carry a summer trend into Autumn. I also love the look of berry colored bottoms; I don’t wear as much colored pants as I would like too, it might be a style I will have to invest into this year.

Will you be rocking any berry hues this season? What is your favorite autumn color?
